Move over Dev D, Kaminey rocks Hindi movie-dom Quentin Tarantino style and how!!!
For all others who have ventured this far in the post bcz they arent too keen to watch intelligently made movies and who lik to give thr brain a break when watching movies, get ready for some real insults...I assume u guys r the ones who make trash lik Singh is Kinng and Kambakkht Ishq seem like pieces of art based on thr box office collections...well i have 1 word to describe all u guys - Kaminey!
I gues only some1 very interested in knowing abt Kaminey wud venture this far...so lemme start...Vishal Bharadwaj gives us a heady tale of twins with a rollicking screenplay that lets u fill in more than it tells, and in the process makes u a part of the movie...It wud b sad to giv away any part of the story but i gues the fact tht this is probably the BEST ensemble cast ever shud b good enuf to make u watch it first thing...the only hitch cud b tht by the end of the movie, u dont get enough of all these wonderfully crazy characters....bcz its a film and has to b wrapped up in 2-2.5 hrs...but for once, u wudnt mind if this one went on for 5 hrs, wit more abt each of the zany characters presented on screen...altho every1 pitches in fantastic performances, Amole Gupte deserves special mention for his portrayal of Bhope Bhau who is probably the most memorable "villian" on-screen since the legendary (and very dramatic) Gabbar...Shahid Kapoor is brilliant in both roles and this movie marks significant growth in him as an actor after being stuck in chocolate-boy roles for quite some time now, roles that he did remarkably, but also roles tht did little for his cud-have-been much better career...A superstar, nay a super-actor is well and truly born! Piggy Chops is lovely in a relatively small role and her Marathi accent is sure to give u goosebumps...the actors playing Mikhail and Lele are excellent! Technically, the movie reminds u a lot of Pulp Fiction, and thts saying a lot! Songs have been a rage since the music release so saying anythng abt them wud b redundancy...
Kaminey is for the people who r hungry for intelligent cinema, which, for a change, doesnt preach but just entertains....and in the process, keeps in mind the fact that ur IQ isnt below par!

Nice movie except for climax which is super-bakwaas. Second half story almost makes no use of those brothers being twins. Surprising.

i dint read the whole review before watching movie[stopped right after 1st warning, bcoz of all other brilliant earlier reviews :)]... obvious reason being d comparison with the Tarantino & Dev D... but sadly it couldn't give me tht kind of high neway.... i was expecting true mind boggling drama.... it wasnt tht super smart.. yeah... there were minute details which one can enjoy[like: aapla hath jagannath ] but at macro level it failed to impress me.... the one thing tht bothers me the most is the characters had choice which cud hv led story somewhere else..[unlike Tarantino movie where characters never have ne choices but to do whatever tarantino asks them to do... ]atleast i cudn't understand what motivated Guddu to go to Police[tht was too much for Guddu's intelligence ]... why charlie , when he cud have simply fled away somewhere i dont know, goes to Tashi[if he was saving his bro's butt then why he brings Tashi to Bhope's place]... yeah there are more pluses thn minuses [considering bollywood movie] it goes beyond typical bollywood flick... wicked characters[even Bhope Bhaus' Bhaacha extort him :D], dark humour, quick bloodshed.... Amole Gupte rocks as Bhope Bhau... @amol: i wud lik to disagree tht the movie isnt super-smart! in fact it is more than super smart! its fuper fmart!! agreed thrs not much drama, but tht makes the movie more believable and also, less cliche! also, agreed its not Tarantino...but dude...thr cn only b one tarantino...and he can make movies only in hollywood...bcz hw many wud undstnd and appreciate wt Kill Bill/Pulp Fiction is all abt in India? mayb 1 crore ppl! thts stil les thn 1% of the population!

@parag: if they had made "use" of the twins angle like every othr twins-movie before, how original wud tht hv been?? Vishal Bharadwaj in fact has put an amazing spin on the twins angle...he doesnt assume all othr characters r dumb and take Guddu for charlie or vice versa...they r mistaken for a while and then realise it...there-in lies the victory of the director i gues..
and abt the climax, i hv heard frm quite a few ppl tht its poor...plz watch the movie/climax again and thnk abt y each char does wat he does and u'll c y tht cud b the only logical culmination to this story...i rest my case :)
man..though i agree with most of ur reviews,i disagree in this case..its nt an out of d world movie, just a pleasant break-away from usual bollywood SRK nautanki..it may b intelligent thn Tashan,Singh Is King & other duffers bt still its nt vry intelligent..i specially found d climax really laughable whr all d villains fight it out..really good acting by Bhope Bhau & Charlie aka Fahid Kapoor..Bt still d movie gives a feeling of smething missing..
dude, i suggest u stop defending this movie. if ppl think it's over-hyped or "not super smart" well i guess they're the kinds who cant grasp things in such movies, what wasnt super smart abt the climax where n number of twists happen in a few minutes. or the scene where guddu catches the lie that sweety created [near the petrol pump]. or abt the scene where bhope n mikhail have that insane conversation 'sarpat sarpat'. i mean puhleeez if ppl cant appreciate insanely awesome movies they shud shut up n wait for the next YR Banner or Aneez Baazmee film to release.
