Its showtime folks!

2 weeks after my previous post on the Euro, the Dutch have snatched the chokers' tag from the Spanish and self-destructed....So, now we are left smacking our lips, relishing the thought of Casillas fighting it out with Podolski,Villa(if he's fit) charging towards Lehmann and Ballack engaging in a duel with Fabregas to decide the Kings of the continent...
Its been an amazing tournament so far with the best reserved for the knock-out stage what with 3 of the 4 QFs goin down to the wire...and the semi-finals have been solid too...Lets hope we get to see a cracker of a finish tomorrow to what's been one of the most entertaining major football tournaments in recent times!

P.S. Go Germany! :)

Tashan mein...

I know its been 2 months sonce tht torture called Tashan was inflicted upon humanity...But i recently came across this extremely well-etched and expertly crafted review of the movie on the internet and cudnt resist putting it up...after all,m all for sarcasm and something like Tashan deserves more of it!
So lets begin the post-mortem,which i promise wil definitely be more enjoyable than watching the movie :D

P.S. The views expressed below are neither my own nor in my words but they are certainly close to what i wud hv written hd i been conscious aftr the movie...
............................
Even the inmates in the asylum or a tramp on the Mumbai streets would have made a better movie than this Friday’s Bollywood release Tashan. What in the heck were the bozos at Yash Raj thinking when they unleashed a trashy movie like Tashan! Utterly bereft of anything worthwhile and an ugly amalgam of bad logic, rotten story, pitiful acting, ordinary photography and ear-damaging music, Tashan is a complete horror show, the likes of which have not been seen in Bollywood in a long, long time. And the architect of this monumental disaster is Vijay Krishna Acharya, who takes credit (discredit?) for Tashan’s story, screenplay, dialogs and direction. Even after making movies for over eight decades, the cavalcade of Bollywood idiots has yet to realize that story, screenplay, dialogues and direction are separate departments requiring the full-time attention of separate people. This clown Vijay Krishna Acharya has penned a story so bizarrely bad that it’ll surely be showcased in film schools as a lesson in how not to make a movie.
The dramatis personae are the ridiculously dressed baddie Bhayyaji (Anil Kapoor), his assistant Pooja Singh (Kareena Kapoor), a call center employee Jimmy Clifff (Saif Ali Khan) and Bhayyaji’s henchman Bachchan Pande (Akshay Kumar). While none of the four cover themselves with any glory for their performance, Anil Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor are egregiously bad. With her skimpy attire and scanty acting skills, the tiny-titted Kareena Kapoor, granddaughter of the late Bollywood director Raj Kapoor, is sheer agony to behold. One interesting trend in Bollywood movies is that the role of the ubiquitous vamp of yesteryear films has now been taken over by the heroine. Following close behind in tormenting the audience in Tashan is that overacting buffoon Anil Kapoor, a veteran of a gazillion Bollywood movies. Just goes to prove that wisdom or talent does not always improve with age. No, Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan are not palliatives either. Hey, there are just no palliatives or redeeming elements in this piece of trash.
The story, if you can call it that, is laughably bad. A murderous thug Bhayyaji (Anil Kapoor) wants to learn English quickly so that he can impress a visiting foreign delegation. His assistant Pooja (Kareena Kapoor) hires a call center employee and part-time English teacher Jeetender Kumar Makhwana a.k.a. Jimmy Cliff to teach her evil boss English. Soon, Jimmy is head over heels in love with Pooja, who seems to reciprocate but actually has other plans up her sleeve. Pooja and Rs 25 crore belonging to Bhayyaji vanish one day. After giving Jimmy a few whacks, he sends a small-town thug called Bachchan Pande and Jimmy to locate the girl and the money.
The main culprit with Tashan is with its asinine script and hackneyed story that crumbles into dust just minutes after the start. Add bad music and mediocre acting to this stinking concoction and you have the recipe for a stinging migraine at the end.
Although the movie was filmed in “God’s Own Country” Kerala, Hardwar, Ladakh, Rajasthan and Greece(?), the photography in Tashan is worse than banal. Talk of throwing pearls before a swine. The fight scene where a big team of heavily armed commandos attack the ill-equipped group of Bhayyaji, Bachchan Pande, Jimmy and Pooja but yet suffer a crushing defeat sets a new low mark in the annals of crude Bollywood fights. It seems Peter Hein bears responsibility for this most crudely executed action scene. Tiresome dances involving foreign women (mostly White but occasionally Black as well) in skimpy attire is becoming de rigeur - and most irritating - in Hindi movies.
Once a powerful force in Bollywood, Yash Raj Films is now a spent force, lurching from one disaster to another. Take a dekko at some of the miserable offerings they’ve churned out lately Aaja Nachle, Laaga Chunari Mein Daag, Jhoom Barabar Jhoom and Ta Ra Rum Pum. Makes you want to puke. Perhaps, it’s time for the grand old man of Indian cinema Yash Chopra (the force behind Yash Raj Films) to quit Bollywood and settle into a profession where he can inflict his misery on a retail level rather than on a wholesale scale - say as a roadside Jalebi seller or village Barber. After all, Saif Ali Khan is served Jalebis in Bhayyaji’s lair early in this movie.
Watch this garbage of a movie called Tashan at the peril of losing your sanity.

A bit of both...

M halfway thru my second reading of The Fountainhead and i cant help but feel tht almost every1 of us has a bit of both-Peter Keating and Howard Roark, in us...Which reminds me a statement by one of my best friends.... "there's no white or black in the world...its all shades of gray'...
Now isnt that a perfect way to sum up the difference between the binary and the real world...the same as the difference between digital and analog signals...
Talk of art imitating life!!!

Oranje all the way...Will they or wont they?

The way the Dutch made mincemeat of Italy and France in quick succession has definitely made them strong contenders for Euro...Arjen Robben was gr8 against France and as a unit, the team played really well in both the games, leaving not many chances for the 2006 World Cup finalists...Both France and Italy are staring at the bottom of the barrel now and need to pull up their socks, defenses and spirits to battle it out and gain a quarter final spot...Of course, Romania could still spoil the party for both if they beat the Dutch in thr last league match...but tht seems like a remote possibility, the spirited show by the Romanians till date notwithstanding...

So while many will be harbouring hopes to see the Oranjes lift the coveted cup a week frm now,not just a few will be struck by a strong sense of 'will they, wont they'...
Isnt this the same Dutch team that so famously chokes whenever its done all the hard work and reached the knock out stages as one of the favorites? We have seen it enough times before now and cant help but wonder if the Dutch will be able to maintain their form and moreover, peak at the right time to win the championship...After all, Holland are beaten only by Spain in the international chokers tag contest (although none of them can beat the Indian cricket XI! )...So,what remains to be seen is if the team ably led by old warhorse Edwin Van der Sar can manage to shed the tag and battle their fears to put up a display of sublime passing, precision finishes and rock solid defense to brush away all opposition and conquer the European continent...After all, a team comprising Van der Sar, Nistelrooy, Sneijder, Kuyt, Heitinga and Robben deserves to win this one, dont you think? It would be a fitting tribute to their yesteryear stars like Dennis Bergkamp and Edgar Davids who failed to manage the feat as many times as they should have, despite being excellent individually...The erstwhile masters of Total Football need to live up to their old nickname 'Clockwork Orange'...

P.S. : The English football team far surpasses the Spanish and the Dutch AND the Indian cricket team in terms of choking and hence can safely bask in the glory of the 'Eternal, perennial chokers' tag...Only, I never considered them as a team but a mere collection of some mediocre, some great, some over-hyped 'superstars' ...As a result, I havent considered them as worthy contenders for the choker's tag ahead of Netherlands and Spain...My apologies to the British!

Dream home...

The trip to Pondicherry last week with mom and dad reopened a small vault inside my heart where i had kept something hidden from myself for quite a few months now...My dream abode...
It mite sound quite funny/silly...but nevertheless i just wish to share it today...A few years ago, i had this idea of how i would like my dream home to be... a nice, smart, small and self-sufficient bungalow with a small garden around it and with some open space for leisure activities...the seashore on the backside with my own pristine beach whr i can relax whn i want and frm whr i can get all the seafood i need...a poultry on the right side for a steady supply of chicken...far enough to not affect the aura of the place and yet, near enough to be easily accessible...a dairy on the right side to ensure an year-round supply of butter, cheese, curds and milk....A nice mango grove nearby so that i can hv all the mangoes i want in summer...and a coconut grove on the other side for regular supply of fresh coconut water....

Bassss...jeene ke liye aur kya chahiye!!!

P.S. : I know its all focussed on the food aspect but cant help it....my life HAS been centred around food for quite some time now!

Nisarg ani me...

Sagarachya laata avegane khadakanvar dhadkat hotya...laat osaru lagtach panyacha dudhal fes punha ekda sagarat vileen hou paahat hota...ani tyache swapna poorna honar ase watu lagtach achanak ajun ek laat tyala swatahavar arudh karun gheun punha ekda khadakanshi bhet ghalun det hoti...

What is love?

Is it a physiological malady or a psychological one? Or is it just psychosomatic???
